Tampa, FL November 27, 2013 -
TPD and the Downtown Partnership Challenge Downtown Businesses to Help the Homeless Find Shelter for the Holidays with "Operation Gimme Shelter"
Operation Gimme Shelter runs from November 27 - December 31.
Chief Jane Castor is challenging downtown businesses to donate money to the Salvation Army to help homeless have a place to stay during the holiday season. The Tampa Police Department started the operation off with a $2,000 donation to a special fund within the Salvation Army specifically designated to provide shelter for the homeless. The Tampa Downtown Partnership is taking a lead role in the operation. They contributed $1,000 and they are reaching out to their membership to build more support in helping Tampa's Homeless.
Every $10 donation, provides housing for a night for someone living on Tampa's streets. With tonight's cold temperatures and the many cold nights to come, your $10 can make a real difference in a homeless person's life this holiday season.
The Sunset Musical Festival donated the $2,000 to TPD for this cause.
To donate, please visit www.salvationarmytampa.org or mail a check to PO Box 2839, Tampa, Fl 33601. Please put Operation Gimme Shelter in the memo line. Credit card donations can also be made via phone 813-228-7616.
