Mayor Buckhorn Appoints Mark Wilfalk to be Solid Waste Director

Tampa, FL March 3, 2014 - Mayor Bob Buckhorn announced that Mark Wilfalk has been appointed to serve as the Director of the Department of Solid Waste and Environmental Program Management for the City of Tampa.

"The business of Solid Waste is changing with fleets increasingly being fueled by CNG, more automation, and expanded recycling opportunities. I am confident that Mark will serve residents, while improving customer service and living within the department’s means," said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. "I am immensely proud to be able to promote from within, and appoint a team player like Mark to lead the department.”

Wilfalk has served residents for the past 16 years, starting with the City of Tampa in 1998 as a Solid Waste Supervisor. He has been promoted five times throughout his career, moving up to become the Chief of Operations, where he oversees $85 million of the budget for Solid Waste. Prior to joining the City of Tampa, he worked for Kimmins Recycling, Inc.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Business Administration from St. Leo University.

As Director, Wilfalk will earn $120,000. He currently resides in the Grant Park neighborhood, and will serve as interim until his appointment can go to Tampa City Council for approval.
