Tampa Police officers are partnering with Hillsborough County deputies and local schools to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. At a Chamberlain High School assembly on March 24, law enforcement, school officials, the Allstate Foundation and the SELF Movement launched the first annual “Teen Safe Driving Design Contest.” As part of the county-wide design contest, the Tampa Police Department will dedicate its weekly “Tuesday Traffic Trivia” Facebook post to teenagers. Students who provide a correct answer along with the name of their high school will have their names entered into a drawing for a cool prize. The department will select a teen winner every week up until April 29.
School Resource Officers will encourage the students at their high schools visit the department’s Facebook page and take part in “Tuesday Traffic Trivia: Teen Edition.” They will also urge students to submit a design and slogan that inspires teens to drive safely to the “Teen Safe Driving Design Contest.” The design contest, which is hosted by the SELF Movement, gives high school students throughout Hillsborough County a chance to win up to $4,000 in scholarships. Registration begins online on March 24. Students have until 11:59 p.m. on April 30 to submit their designs. Students can simply visit The Self Movement online for additional contest rules and details.
The Tampa Police Department started “Tuesday Traffic Trivia” in December 2013. The goal of this online contest is to promote traffic safety awareness and to remind all drivers of the rules of the road. The department hopes that the Teen Edition will encourage more teenagers to take part in the online conversation about traffic safety.
