MEDIA ADVISORY - PHOTO OPPORTUNITY - Mayor Buckhorn Hosts Mayor's Mac & Cheese Throwdown - Family friendly event raises money for Riverwalk non-profit
Tampa, FL May 7, 2014 -


This Saturday, May 10, Mayor Bob Buckhorn in conjunction with the Friends of the Riverwalk will host the inaugural Mayor’s Mac & Cheese Throwdown in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.

Dozens of local eateries will compete to determine the best local mac & cheese dish. Participating restaurants are as follows: Anise Gastro Global Bar, Bamboozle Cafe, Cigar City Brewpub, Doormét Gourmet Cafe, Ducky’s Sports Lounge, EATS! American Grill, Ella's Americana Folkart Cafe, Fly Bar & Restaurant, Fynn’s Bar & Grill, Holy Hog BBQ, Jazzy's BBQ, MacDinton’s Irish Pub, Mott & Hester Deli Co., Outpost Tap House + Tavern, Ravioli Company, Sail Pavilion at Tampa Convention Center, Sono Café -- Tampa Museum of Art, Splitsville, Sunny Side-Up, Taps Bar & Lounge, Ulele Restaurant & Brewery, Urban Brew and BBQ, Yacht StarShip, Zudar's Deli, Smoke Shack, James Joyce Irish Pub & Eatery and Daily Eats.

Local chef Greg Baker along with former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Ian Beckles, and Tampa Bay Times columnist Ernest Hooper will determine which restaurant takes home the prize for best mac & cheese dish. A kids panel, led by Grace and Colleen Buckhorn, will determine the "Children’s Choice."

All attendees will be able to pick their favorite as part of the "People’s Choice Award."

The event will also feature live entertainment, including Mighty Mongo, the Sh-Booms, and Alexander & the Grapes as well as craft beer and wine, and games and activities for all ages.

All mac & cheese samples will be sold on behalf of the Friends of the Riverwalk, a local nonprofit that works to improve and enhance the Tampa Riverwalk. The event and entertainment are free and open to the public.

Event runs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Judging will occur between 5 p.m. at 7 p.m. with the winners being announced by Mayor Bob Buckhorn at 7:30 p.m.
