Tampa, FL October 6, 2006 - Mayor Pam Iorio invites all Tampa residents to join her, members of Tampa City Council and city leaders for a free fitness walk on Saturday, October 21, 2006, at Al Lopez Park, located at 4810 N. Himes Avenue. Registration opens at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m.
Walking with the Mayor – Keeping Tampa Fit was initiated in 2005 and walks are held each March and October. The goal of the walks is to encourage residents to incorporate additional physical activity into their lifestyles for better health.
Physical activity is key to maintaining a healthy body weight, preventing disease and feeling better. Research shows that physically active adults and children are less prone to obesity, diabetes, heart disease and even depression. Tampa’s parks offer a wide range of free and low-cost opportunities to get out and play. Physical activity and good health…It Starts in Parks.
