February 8, 2007 - Tampa Police detectives have arrested a Chamberlain High School Advisor
for stealing money that students raised through volunteer work to pay
for graduation events. Tampa Police were alerted to the actions of the
defendant, Cheryl Foster-Lawrentz by the school when SunCoast bank
notified them of suspicious activity on the account. Professional
Standards Department of Hillsborough County and Tampa Police Detectives
conducted a joint investigation over a one week period. The
investigation revealed that this individual was receiving the payment
checks from the volunteer work of the students and placing the checks in
her own account instead of the schools account. This theft occurred
between 11/05 and 12/06. A total of twenty one checks were diverted,
totaling $9,559.00. At this time there is only a few hundred dollars
left in the defendants account and it has not been determined where or
how the stolen funds was spent. The stolen funds were proceeds that the
school receives through the volunteer efforts at special events at
raymond james stadium.
