Urban Lake rescue Project Begins - Lake Roberta to Get Improvements Including Installation of a Sediment Trap

Tampa, FL January 25, 2008 - As part of the City of Tampa’s continued commitment to investing in neighborhoods, work is underway for the installation of a stormwater sediment trap for Lake Roberta. Construction began in early January 2008 and will take place on Lake Roberta Circle and Idlewild Avenue.

The project provides for the installation of a sediment trap to block trash and debris from the existing stormwater system before it goes into Lake Roberta. The project includes roadway restoration and asphalt paving, as well as concrete sidewalks and driveways. It will also involve re-grading a portion of Lake Roberta to create a new shoreline, which will be enhanced with vegetative plantings. The new shoreline and plantings will help improve the water quality within Lake Roberta.

The project was planned and designed by the Stormwater Department. The cost of construction is $315,909. The contract was awarded to Kamminga & Roodvoets, Inc. The anticipated completion date for the project is June 2008.

Inquiries regarding the project may be directed to Contract Administration Department Director David Vaughn, AIA at (813) 274-8568 or david.vaughn@tampagov.net.
