November 10, 2008 - Business and community leaders will join Mayor Pam Iorio and American Planning Association (APA) President Bob Hunter for a sign unveiling ceremony to celebrate One of America's 10 Great Streets, 7th Avenue. The event will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Rough Riders' Park, located at the corner of 7th Avenue and 13th Street.
The APA selected 7th Avenue as one of the 10 Great Streets in America for 2008 through its Great Places in America program. APA awarded 7th Avenue this designation based on its history, distinctive character, and strong community engagement. The area encompasses the 11 blocks between Nick Nuccio Parkway and 26th Street.
The community's tradition of civic participation and involvement in planning and preservation has continued. The Ybor City Historic District Revitalization Plan, developed in 1983, led to millions of dollars in private investment along 7th Avenue.
