Tampa, FL November 18, 2008 - City of Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio has selected Hersey Jackson, 52, to fill the current resident vacancy position on the Tampa Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.
Hersey, a city resident who resides in Arbors Estates, relocated to Tampa from Chicago in 1999. He was a Pastor for more than 20 years. He also served as the Policy Representative for the School District of Hillsborough County’s Head Start Program from 2000 to 2003 as well as chairman of the Policy Representatives’ group from 2001 to 2002.
Jackson is filling the unexpired four-year term that was vacated by Karen Peoples in September of this year. This term is set to expire on June 17, 2010. Hersey’s appointment will require Tampa City Council confirmation. Council is set to review the appointment on Thursday, November 20, 2008.
Established under the Housing Act of 1937, the Tampa Housing Authority (THA) was given the responsibility of becoming a primary provider of affordable housing opportunities for urban residents. The Authority works to assure equal access to safe, quality housing for low and moderate income families through out the city.
