Tampa, FL June 29, 2009 -
Mayor Pam Iorio, in coordination with Tampa Independent Business Alliance, will kick off Tampa’s Backyard Economics Campaign. On July 1 at 11 a.m., Mayor Iorio will begin her tour of local businesses by visiting Tanner Paint, located at 4917 North Armenia Avenue. Other businesses scheduled for visits that day include NoHo Bistro, Vinyl Fever, Georgette’s and the Shoe Salon, VSpicery, and Hayman Jewelry Company.
Florida initiated a Backyard Economics Campaign in March to assist local businesses by keeping the purchase of goods and services in the state. The campaign promotes local shopping to help retain jobs and strengthen our economy. It is coordinated statewide by the Florida Chamber of Commerce and locally by the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. The campaign, which includes various incentives from Florida merchants, encourages consumers to buy from Florida companies instead of online shopping.
Businesses in the state are encouraged to offer specials, register as participating businesses and help promote the campaign. Local chambers, economic development agencies, cities and counties are also being asked to help with the effort.
The program is free to all participating merchants and consumers.
