Tampa, FL September 16, 2009 - Mayor Pam Iorio held a news conference today to announce the selection of Jane Castor as Tampa's next police chief, replacing Chief Steve Hogue who is retiring. Castor is currently the assistant chief of operations and has been with the Tampa Police Department for 25 years. During her tenure, Castor has held many positions in several areas of the department including patrol, narcotics, family violence and sex crimes, and criminal intelligence.
Castor has a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminology from University of Tampa and a Master's of Public Administration from Troy State University. She is also a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy.
Castor will be appointed police chief pending Tampa City Council confirmation on October 1, 2009. Her starting salary will be $144,394.
Steve Hogue, the current police chief, will be retiring from the Tampa Police Department officially on September 30, 2009. He was appointed police chief by Mayor Iorio in September 2003.
