| Two Amateur Radio Courses Offered |

October 20, 2009 - The Tampa Amateur Radio Club, in cooperation with Hillsborough County Emergency Management, is proud to sponsor two Amateur Radio courses - the introductory Amateur Radio, "Technician Class" License Course and the General Class license upgrade course, all in a traditional classroom setting.
Please invite your friends to come join the almost 300 people who have taken these courses and earned or upgraded an Amateur Radio license during the last few years.
These courses will be held on two consecutive Saturdays - the 7th and 14th of November, 2009, at the Hillsborough County Emergency Operations Center, located at 2711 East Hanna Avenue Tampa, FL 33610.
Class will start at 9 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. on the 7th, and on the 14th, class will start at 9 a.m. and testing will begin at 3:30 p.m.
The introductory Technician course will be based around the new ARRL Technician Class book, "The ARRL Ham Radio License Manual”.
The textbook being used for the general course is entitled "The ARRL General Class License Manual" (ISBN:0-87259-996-5) published by the American Radio Relay League.
The cost for each book is $24.95. You will pay for and receive these textbooks at class time.
There will also be a "Show and Tell" of various Amateur Radio experiences during the classes.
If you wish to start studying before class, Amateur radio practice tests for these license courses are available on-line at http://www.qrz.com/p/testing.pl. Choose the appropriate exam pool.
The instructors offer their time at no cost to the public. However, there is a $14 examination fee, and applicants will need a government-issued picture ID card (and a copy of their existing license, for those upgrading). This fee, with the book, brings the cost for either of these classes to $38.95.
Due to a generous grant from Hillsborough County, the fees for this class will be reimbursed after successfully passing the test, which will be given on Saturday the 14th.
In order to properly prepare materials and gauge class sizes, please e-mail the instructors training@hamclub.org to reserve your seat in the class. Class size is limited! If you are unable to attend both
sessions of your course, please let us know that as well - there is some scheduling flexibility for this class.
