Groundbreaking set for the 40th Street Project - Construction slated to begin on the final segment

Tampa, FL October 22, 2009 - Citizens, community leaders, and the 40th Street Task Force will join Mayor Pam Iorio for a groundbreaking ceremony for Segment A of the 40th Street Project. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the corner of 40th Street and Hanna Avenue.

This is the final portion of the five-segments, spanning from Hillsborough Avenue to Hanna Avenue on 40th Street. The project will provide increased roadway capacity and safety. Segment A is necessary to provide continuity between the completed Segment B and the existing four-lane divided section of 40th Street south of Hillsborough Avenue. This portion of the road widening project includes roadway, stormwater, water and wastewater improvements; street lighting, sidewalks, landscaping, and irrigation.

The construction contract has been awarded to Cone & Graham, Inc. Construction is expected to begin in early November 2009 and completed in spring 2011. The total project cost for Segment A is $5 million. Access to commercial businesses, residences, and local roads will be maintained during construction.
