Tampa, FL January 20, 2010 - This year marks the fourth that the City has implemented recycling programs and staff will be doing their best to get the pirates and the public “hooked on recycling”. Last year, the community recycled more than 11 tons of corrugated cardboard boxes and commingled containers including plastic and aluminum bottles and cans.
The recycling program will start with the Gasparilla Extravaganza and Children’s Parade this Saturday and continue at the annual Gasparilla Pirate Fest on Saturday, January 30. The Department of Solid Waste and Environmental Program Management, in partnership with Anheuser-Busch Recycling, will provide the opportunity for pirates, vendors, sponsors and parade attendees to recycle during the event by placing receptacles along the parade route. Recycling team members will collect and bag recyclables before, during and after both parades.
