Tampa, FL January 21, 2010 - The City’s Department of Solid Waste and Environmental Program Management, with assistance from Kessler Consulting, Inc., conducted resident focus groups and follow-up phone surveys to gather data to help identify educational approaches and incentives to increase participation.
North Sulphur Springs and the Belmont Heights/Ybor City area were chosen for implementation of a residential recycling pilot program. Education Campaigns were employed in both targeted areas and recycling participation rates tracked by drivers for a month. The top 10% of recyclers will be awarded tickets to local venues and treated to behind-the-scenes Eco-Tours.
Community partners included the St. Pete Times Forum, Museum of Science and Industry, Anheuser Busch Recycling, Busch Gardens, Event Fest, the Tampa Convention Center and the Gasparilla Distance Classic Association.
