2010 City of Tampa Black History Celebration - Event honors the importance of family
Tampa, FL January 28, 2010 - The 22nd Annual City of Tampa Black History Celebration will honor America’s most important resource - the family. Hosted by the City of Tampa Black History Committee, Inc. (COTBHC), this year’s celebration will take place on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the Tampa Convention Center, Ballroom B at 11 a.m. The Tampa Convention Center is located at 333 South Franklin Street.

The program, With Open Arms: Reconnecting the Family, promises to entertain and enlighten. Scheduled to join Mayor Pam Iorio on the program is Tampa City Council Chair Pro-Tem Gwen Miller. Veronica Martin, Vice President of Women’s and Children’s Services at Tampa General Hospital, will deliver the keynote address. Erica Riggins, Bay News 9 Anchor, will serve as emcee for the event.

Three of the City of Tampa employees that won the COTBHC Talent Search, Thomas Hester, Jeffery Hill, and Bridgett Gordon, along with her daughter Andrea Gordon, will perform during the ceremony. Also featured on the program is rising star, Jasmine Parker, daughter of City of Tampa employee Sheila Parker. The other two winners of the COTBHC talent search, City employees Roger Gibson and Andre James, will perform at a COTBHC event later in the year. Prior to the celebration, beginning at 10:30 a.m. there will be performances by the Rampello Downtown Partnership School Jazz Ensemble and students from Eisenhower Middle School.

The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available for a fee in the Convention Center Garage. COTBHC is a non-profit organization.
