Tampa, FL March 5, 2010 - For the next two months, Twiggs Street in downtown Tampa will be a one-way, westbound road from Meridian Avenue to Pierce Street. Motorists traveling to the Hillsborough County courthouse, Hillsborough County Water Department, the Amtrak station or other nearby businesses should allow extra travel time, use caution and pay close attention to detour signs.
Motorists wishing to take the on-ramp to the eastbound Selmon Expressway cannot travel eastbound on Twiggs. Motorists should follow detour signs and go south on Jefferson Street, east on Jackson Street and north on Nebraska Avenue to the Selmon Expressway on-ramp. View map (PDF, 756 Kb)
Those attending the Gasparilla Arts Festival this weekend should also be mindful of detours.
The Twiggs Street lane closure is for installation of new water pipelines in downtown Tampa. The City of Tampa is replacing approximately 6 miles of downtown water pipelines, some of which are more than 100 years old, to improve water service reliability, increase water pressure and improve fire protection for downtown businesses and residents. The Downtown Pipeline Replacement Project is part of the City of Tampa’s Utility Capital Improvement Project (UCAP). Project and detour information can be found online at www.tampa-ucap.com or by calling the UCAP hotline at (813) 777-9222.
