Officers had information that the suspect stated he wouldn't go back to prison at any cost. ROC Officers waited at the location until the suspect arrived around 2 p.m. The officers boxed in the suspect's vehicle. The suspect rammed the three police SUVs, repeatedly, hit a tree and was able to drive away. As he rammed the tree, Corporal Bryon Hoskins, a 7 year veteran and Officer Tim Bergman, a five and half year veteran, in fear for their lives, fired and one shot hit the suspect. It is under investigation which officer hit the suspect. The suspect sped away, officers followed him to Scruggs Manor Apartments, 11201 North 22nd Street where he ditched the car and ran into the Lennox Apartments, 11311 North 22nd Street. The suspect knocked on the victim's apartment door and said, "It's me." The suspect, thinking it was her boyfriend, opened the door. The suspect closed the door and held the victim against her will, threatening her life. Officers not knowing which apartment he entered, followed a trail of blood and narrowed down his location to four apartments. As the Tactical Respose Team (TRT) were about to enter the fourth apartment, the suspect jumped from apartment B207's balcony. He was wearing in a black dress, pink house coat, pink crocs and a wig. He ran and jumped over a barbed wire fence. K-9 Officer Jay Tkach and K-9 Bosco ran after the suspect. Officer Tkach lifted the bottom of the fence and released Bosco. Bosco caught the suspect on the railroad tracks. Officer Tkach and K-9 Officer Troy Neal received cuts to their hands and legs from the fence.
There was a gun in the suspect's car. The suspect was taken to Tampa General Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left side. The officers were placed on routine, paid administrative leave.
