“Mayor’s Book Talk” Welcomes Author Burton Hersh - St. Petersburg Historian Describes the Life of One of America’s Most Prominent Senators

Tampa, FL December 22, 2010 - On the January episode of “Mayor’s Book Talk”, author Burton Hersh will join Mayor Iorio to discuss his book Edward Kennedy: An Intimate Biography. As a friend and former schoolmate of the late senator, Hersh gives an insider’s account of the private life of one of the country’s most public figures.

The mayor’s book discussion group, fifth grade readers from Rampello Downtown Partnership School, talk about Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. In the book, 13-year old Brian is stranded in the Canadian wilderness after the Cessna 406 that he was traveling on crashes en route to visit his father. Armed with only a hatchet, Brian struggles against the elements and his own inner demons in this story of hope and desperate survival. Students can read along by logging onto www.tampagov.net/booktalk for discussion questions and upcoming book selections.

“Mayor’s Book Talk” can be viewed on City of Tampa Television (CTTV), Channel 15 on Verizon FiOS and Channel 615 on Bright House Networks. Replay times for “Mayor’s Book Talk” are Sundays at 3:30 p.m., Mondays at 8 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 8 a.m.
