Tampa, FL February 8, 2012 - The Urban Land Institute Daniel Rose Center for Leadership (ULI) is conducting their study visit to Tampa this week and will offer their suggestions in developing a master plan for the riverfront area to the Northwest of the Central Business District.
The Rose Center Fellows will make a public presentation regarding its findings and recommendations on Friday, February 10, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The presentation will take place at the Tampa Convention Center, located at 333 S. Franklin Street, in Room 19.
“The Hillsborough River is one of our best assets as a city. This will give us a roadmap moving forward to jumpstart redevelopment and stimulate the investments to revitalize a key area of the riverfront,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn.
The City of Tampa, in coordination with the Tampa Housing Authority, is working to transform the underutilized riverfront area northwest of the Central Business District, or the area north of Interstate I-275, east of Rome Avenue and along the south and west banks of the Hillsborough River. The area contains approximately 140 acres with over 7,200 linear feet of river frontage. Over 80% of the redevelopment area is owned by various public agencies.
The Rose Center Panelists and Fellows are experts in economic development, land use, real estate development, and government operations from around the world who volunteer their time to help communities solve difficult development or related public policy problems.

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) conducted an Advisory Services Panel in Tampa previously. The City of Tampa requested an ULI Panel to assist in developing a vision and master plan for the city's urban core. That panel made its recommendations in October 2011.
Mayor Buckhorn named City Attorney Jim Shimberg, Acting Administrator of the Economic and Urban Development Department Bob McDonaugh, and Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Tampa Housing Authority Leroy Moore to take part in the 2011-2012 ULI Daniel Rose Fellowship.
