Tampa Police Host RNC Citizen’s Academy
Community Leaders Get Behind the Scenes Look at RNC Preparations
Who: Mayor Bob Buckhorn and Chief Jane Castor will preview how law enforcement will keep the event safe.
When: Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 8:30 a.m.
Where: Tampa Police Training Academy, CSR Building, 116 North 34th Street, Tampa
Mayor Bob Buckhorn and Chief Jane Castor will unveil the RNC uniforms, equipment and technology that will keep Tampa safe during the largest event in the region’s history. Seventy community and business leaders will get a taste of the extensive training that local and state law enforcement officers are completing prior to the event. The demonstrations will be put on by the Crowd Management Teams, Mounted Patrol, RNC Bike Teams, the Regional Bomb Team and K-9.
The academy will open at 7:45 a.m. for media to set up. Community leaders will arrive at TPD’s Downtown Tampa Headquarters at 7:45 a.m. to load onto buses that will take them to the academy. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. The buses will take the community members back to TPD Headquarters at 11:30 a.m.
