Mayor Buckhorn Opens Completed Alline Avenue Pump Station

Tampa, FL January 17, 2013 - Mayor Bob Buckhorn will cut the ribbon on the completed Alline Avenue Pump Station, part of the larger Alline Avenue Area Drainage Improvement Project on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 10 a.m. The Alline Avenue Pump Station is located at 2921 Alline Avenue.

The Alline Avenue Area Drainage Improvement Project will alleviate flooding within the neighborhood bounded by Bayshore Boulevard, and MacDill, Chapin and Coachman avenues, which floods frequently during heavy rains. The area was a lake bed that was developed into a subdivision in the late 1930s.

The project includes the construction of the Alline Avenue Pump Station, which was designed to resemble a single-family residence. The property where the new pump station sits was purchased in April 2007 by the City of Tampa Stormwater Division, and is the lowest property on the block.

Additional, the Alline Avenue Area Drainage Improvement Project involves the replacement of undersized stormwater pipes, installation of a 36" force-main down Asbury Place to Hillsborough Bay, and the construction of inlets on MacDill Avenue. Two nutrient-separating baffle boxes will also be installed upstream of the pump station to filter pollutants from stormwater.

The firm of McKim & Creed teamed up with the City of Tampa Stormwater Engineering Division to plan and design the project. Wharton Smith, Inc. constructed the project. The total project cost for design and construction is $4.8 million. Financial assistance for this project was provided by the Southwest Florida Water Management District.
