Tampa, FL February 5, 2013 - Mayor Bob Buckhorn announced seven new public Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the City of Tampa offices. Each hotspot was chosen because it is in a highly trafficked area and will be of most use to our customers.
"From Wi-Fi to the Accela online permitting system, we're investing in becoming a more business-friendly and user-friendly city. These hotspots are providing a real service for our customers," said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “When citizens come down to visit City Hall or file a permit, I want them to know that they can continue to do business.”
The public can utilize the City’s Wi-Fi at the following locations: the lobby of the Tampa Municipal Office Building, City Council Chambers, City Council lobby, the lobby of the Tampa Police Department, Development Services Center lobby, Development Services Center conference room, and the lobby of the Solid Waste offices.
The City of Tampa spent approximately $9,500 in equipment and installation, with an estimated $5000 per year in reoccurring internet and software maintenance charges.
The Technology and Innovation Department will continue to explore the feasibility of creating additional hotspots in the City.s recreation centers and parks.
