On this episode of City of Tampa Television's (CTTV) Spotlight Tampa, we visit the Mayor's River O'Green Fest in beautiful Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park to watch the Hillsborough River turn just the right shade for the occasion. The American Lung Association’s “Fight for Air Climb” saw both firefighters and civilians climb forty-one flights of stairs while wearing fifty pounds of firefighting gear, all for a worthwhile cause. Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo offers guests a special visit from some very outgoing sea lions. We get an update on the Encore project that spans twelve blocks and forty plus acres. The Patel Conservatory at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts has become a destination for some of the best upcoming young dance talent in America thanks to the training at Next Generation Ballet. And the weather is ideal for another Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta.

April 4, 2014The Friday Extra Concert Series Celebrates 27 Years of Local Music! ** Expired **

You know it's spring when the Friday evening air fills with music around Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, and then the Lowry Park Bandshell. Now in its 27th year, the Friday Extra Concert Series is Tampa’s longest running concert series and highlights local musicians and bands. The concert series begins April 4th at 7pm in Curtis Hixon Park and continues there through the month of April (with the exception of April 18). In May, the series returns to its birthplace, the Lowry Park Bandshell, and finishes there on the last Friday in May.  Enjoy the shows!

Each concert is replayed on CTTV each Monday at 8 a.m., Wednesday at 1 p.m. and Friday at 6 p.m. following the show.

Tampa’s Department of Solid Waste and the Tampa Downtown Partnership have teamed up to make our downtown more pedestrian friendly. An East Tampa paving project has made significant improvements to neighborhood roadways. 2013 marks the 11th anniversary of the TECO Line Streetcar System. A federal grant is helping the 23-year old Tampa Convention Center to upgrade and become even more energy efficient. Two East Tampa organizations put on community events to help kids and their parents get the supplies they needed to start school. The Encore, a multi-income, multi-generation housing complex is working to reclaim the glorious past of Central Avenue. And Tampa is about to embark on an ambitious bike-sharing program.   more...
