Dr.hampton
In Woodlawn cemetery are the monuments of Dr. Hampton and his wife Emma. Dr. Hampton went to Italy to have these monuments made for himself and his wife Emma. After a dispute with the City leaders, and with an electoral loss, he decided to face west turning his back on Tampa. Also buried in the cemetery are Union and Confederate soldiers side by side in the middle of the cemetery. There are 31 Confederate bodies in the Confederate block. The Union block memorial (1861-1865) that stands next to it has 24 bodies in it. |
