High level disinfection of the effluent is provided in the post-aeration/chlorination tanks. A chlorine residual of over 1.0 mg/L
is maintained. The chlorine
is then removed by addition of sulfur dioxide prior to discharge to Hillsborough
Bay. If the effluent is reused, the chlorine is not removed.
