Community Investment Tax

The Community Investment Tax (CIT), approved by the voters on September 3, 1996, provides for a one-half cent increase to the Sales Tax. In FY98, revenues from the tax are projected to be $9.2 million of which $6.2 million will be allocated to capital improvements and $3.0 million for vehicles and equipment. The revenue from the CIT is focused on public safety, parks and recreation, stormwater and public works.

Here is what is happening in your neighborhood in FY98:

 Police: 50 marked police cars for the take-home program along with 32 unmarked cars to replace older cars - $2,062,000.

 Fire: Station #13 (40th & Busch) improvements - $228,000, an aerial fire engine and 2 cars - $656,000.

 Recreation: Construction of the Copeland Park Community Center - $872,000.

 Parks: Greco Softball Complex Renovations - $386,000: Park Land and Facilities Acquisition - $200,000: Playground Equipment Replacement - $123,000: Vehicles, mowers and landscaping equipment - $216,000.

 Stormwater: Drainage improvements at Cleveland Street Basin - $1,185,700 and Palma Ceia - $600,000.

 Public Works: Westshore and Commerce Intersection Improvements - $1,000,000: Seawall Reconstruction - $700,000: Street Resurfacing - $600,000: Sidewalk Construction - $200,000: Cul-de-sacs in Seminole Heights - $100,000: Vehicles - $98,500.
