UTILITIES

AVERAGE MONTHLY RESIDENTIAL UTILITY BILL
The current monthly bill for an average home user is $57.20 and will not change for FY01. There is no residential rate increase proposed for Water, Sanitary Sewers or Solid Waste. This is the third consecutive year that the City has been able to operate without a rate increase. This once again allows us to maintain utility rates lower than many local jurisdictions.

VEHICLES

Tampa Reports to the People

In FY1999 the City began a long process of upgrading it's vehicle fleet. The first part identified was to increase the police marked and unmarked fleet so that each officer had a take-home car. This goal will be reached in FY2001 when the marked fleet reaches its authorization of 741 vehicles and the unmarked units get to 226 units. Beginning in FY2002 one-seventh of the marked and unmarked vehicles will be replaced annually.

The second part was to provide sufficient annual funding for sedans and light trucks in the General Fund departments so that they would be replaced on a seven-year cycle. This part was also initiated in FY1999 and the program was extended to the Enterprise Funded departments in FY2000. For FY2001 the remaining vehicles, heavy-duty and specialized equipment, is being addressed. Annual funding for the General Fund department's heavy-duty fleet is being increased from $800,000 to $1,800,000 and for Specialized Equipment we will introduce pooling and/or leasing.
