Property taxes budgeted for FY03 total $104.5 million with
no ad valorem millage adjustments. This will be the fourteenth
consecutive year where Tampa has not raised millage rates to fund
government services. A homeowner's tax bill may differ from the
previous year due to changes in assessed value or ad valorem millage
adjustments by other local taxing authorities. The "other"
category includes: HARTline, Children's Board, SWFWMD, Port Authority,
and the Library System.
• City of Tampa Television (CTTV) is available worldwide
in streaming video via the Internet at www.cttv15.net.
• A typical person in Tampa produces 6 pounds of garbage and 2
to 3 pounds of recyclable materials a day.
• Who audits the auditors? A team from the National Association
of Local Government reviewed the City's Internal Audit Department in June
2002. The department was in full compliance with Government Auditing Standards.
• The City spends $3.5 million annually for electricity to illuminate
30,812 streetlights.
• In the 2001 United Way Campaign, 3,259 or 76.6% of the City's
employees participated. Total gifts and pledges amounted to $323,658,
or 125.5% of the Campaign goal. The City has been recognized by the United
Way of Hillsborough County as a Premiere Pacesetter and Gold Award Winner.
• Tampa Educational Cable Consortium has won a national award for
Overall Excellence in Educational programming 4 times.
• The Water Conservation Program achieved a 26% decrease in per
capita water use since 1989, while the water service population increased
20%.
• The Parking Division maintains its own in-house security force,
with a current total of 40 Security Guards, 2 Assistant Chiefs of Security,
and 1 Chief of Security to cover all of our parking garages and open surface
lots on a mobile or walking assignment, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
• Tampa Recreation Department taught 4,227 kids to swim in the
2002 Summer Learn to Swim Program.
• Rafael Vinoly, world-renown architect from New York City and
Argentina, has designed a new building for the Tampa Museum of Art. The
124,000 square foot building will be 3 times as large as the current facility.
Construction is expected to begin this year.
• The Hillsborough River Water Treatment Plant began treating water
in 1926 and to date is the largest surface water treatment plant in Florida.
• Traffic Operations patched over 10,000 potholes last year.
