Working together with
Mayor Pam Iorio and her
Administration, it is the goal
of this Council to assist in
making the City of Tampa one
of the truly great cities in the
United States. It is with the
implementation of this budget
that we will be afforded the
opportunity to move forward
with our plans to create
beautiful, scenic, clean, safe and
affordable neighborhoods for all
of our citizens.
While addressing this year’s
budget, it is Council’s posture
to stand on the side of financial
preservation. It is with this in
mind that we follow our mission
of enacting the kind of laws and
resolutions that will benefit the
citizens of Tampa while at the
same time, creating the kind of
atmosphere that will encourage
healthy job producing industries
and promoting greater tourism
opportunities.
City Council wants to do
whatever is necessary to help the
mayor make Tampa the great
city it is poised to be. However,
legislatures are not successful in
and of themselves, it also takes
the voice of the people. This
Council is primed and ready to
listen to those voices which we
believe will result in the delivery
of services in a more effective,
efficient, timely and cost saving
manner.
City Council will never hesitate
to take advantage of good
things that are going on in
other cities or be close-minded
to any suggestions made by
constituents or the mayor. The
members of this Council will
dedicate themselves to doing
everything within its power to
make Tampa a city we can all
be proud of.
Thank you for your help in
making this city an all-inclusive
one.

THE BUDGET PROCESS
The City of Tampa budget development
is a year round process. During the
first quarter of the new fiscal year, the
budget office prepares initial revenue
and expense estimates. Next, the mayor
and the departments review goals
and develop their service and delivery
objectives during the second quarter,
based on anticipated funding levels.
Departments then prepare working
budgets that are within the threshold
amounts. All budgets must be ready by
June for the mayor’s review.
Finally, the Recommended Budget is
presented to City Council for review,
two public hearings are held and
the budget is adopted by the end of
September. On October 1st the new
fiscal year starts and the process begins
again.
The first public hearing was held
on September 16th with the second
scheduled for September 30th, 5:30
p.m. at City Hall.
