Effective February 1, 1996The records of the Mayor's Office of the City of Tampa offer a comprehensive view of the City government. The information contained in these records sometimes exceed the scope of the government and deal with nearly any subject that affects Tampa either directly or indirectly. As the City's chief executive officer, the Mayor is responsible for the enforcement of laws, appointment and removal of City officers and employees, direction of City departments and divisions, supervision of City property and negotiation of contracts. The Mayor makes recommendations to the City Council for the creation of ordinances and resolutions, and prepares (presents) the annual budget. The Mayor represents the City on several official boards and authorities which may hold powers of taxation and eminent domain. The Mayor also appoints citizens to serve on numerous boards, committees and authorities which regulate City operations. The Mayor is elected at large for a four-year term and may not serve more than two consecutive terms. The Mayor must be a city resident for two years immediately preceding the commencement of the term of office.
