| NOTE: In a revision of the Tampa City Charter approved by the State
Legislature and voters in the City of Tampa in 1945, the number of

terms of Board (Council) members from two years to four years
affective the 1947 elections. |

Mayor Curtis Hixon died in office on May 21, 1956. J.L. Young, Jr.,
was immediately sworn in as Mayor according to the existing rules of
succession. Mr. Young subsequently resigned from the Council in
order to run as a candidate for mayor in the special municipal
election held on September 27, 1956 (his vacant seat on the council
was also filled in this election.) The Council re-organized during
