Using Archives

Anyone interested in researching Tampa, its people and its government may use the Archives. Users include members of the general public, teachers, students, businesses, newspaper columnists, and historians as well as employees of the City of Tampa.

SERVICE: Our staff assists patrons with their research needs by providing guides, indices and inventories of the Archives collection, as well as by suggesting pertinent resources in the collection and in the community. Because we have a small staff which is committed to providing the best possible service, we recommend that researchers call in advance to inform us of their research requirements.

Please call for an appointment at least three days in advance to research archival materials.

USE AND COPYING: In order to ensure the availability of our records for future generations, they must be used in the Archives. General use of the collection is free. When use of archival materials results in published works, we ask that the City of Tampa Archives receive a credit line and a donated copy of the publication. The fee for copying letter/legal size documents is 15 cents per page. There may be an additional charge for over-size documents.

City of Tampa records are public records under Florida's Public Records Law and are not protected by copyright. In the case of published works, the researcher bears responsibility for use of photocopied materials.
