Other Commercial Permits

Awnings / Canopies

Along with the standard Project Application, this type of permit requires the submittal of two (2) sets of signed and sealed building plans and two (2) sets of site plans.
 

Code Compliance

Code Compliance permits are required to allow the inspection of building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and life safety components for change of occupancy, change of use where no work is being performed in order to obtain certificate of occupancy. This type of permit will be issued on the same day, and the Project Application must be completed. 
 

Commercial Modify Fire Alarm, Extinguishing, Protection

Along with the standard Project Application, this type of permit requires two (2) sets of signed and sealed building plans and two (2) sets of site plans.
 

Commercial Site New Construction

A Site New Construction permit can be obtained to include excavation, erecting forms, and reinforcing steel for foundation. Typically this permit will be obtained, while the design of the proposed structure is still in design stage. Contractor/ Owner will then apply for a Phased: Finish and/or Interior Finish permit once design is finished, to have building plans reviewed for compliance and obtained permit to finish project.
 

Communication Tower

A communication tower permit is required when installing cabinets with antennas or antennas to existing compound areas. Along with the standard Project Application, this type of permit requires the submittal of two (2) sets of signed and sealed building plans and two (2) sets of site plans signed and sealed by a licensed Florida Civil Engineer, two copies of the survey drawn to standard scale including tree survey and topographical detail or dimensions, letter of authorization.
 

Condominium Permit

A condominium is a building or complex in which units of property are owned by individuals, and common parts of the property, such as the grounds and building structure, are owned jointly by the unit owners. This permit will include the review of items within specific condominium unit(s). Along with the standard Project Application, this type of permit requires the submittal of two (2) sets of signed and sealed building plans and two (2) sets of site plans.
 

Demolition of a Structure

This permit is required for the demolition of any existing structure and the associated debris removal, and will be issued on the same day. Inspection for same needs to be called in, once the site is ready before the demolition takes place. Early Start

Upon approval of the building official, the scope of work described on the permit application and submitted plans may be started prior to the final approval and issuance of the permit, provided:
  1. Any work completed is entirely at the risk of the permit applicant.
  2. Work is not covered up.
  3. Does not proceed past the first required inspection.

Inspection of work shall not performed until a valid permit is obtained per City of Tampa Code Section 5-105.13.

Electric Shutter

Along with standard Project Application and Owner’s Permit Affidavit (if owner applying), this type of permit requires the submittal of two (2) sets of electrical plans, manufacturer specifications and product approval.  The manufacturer of the electric shutter and the product approval must be readily available to the Construction Inspector in the field.
 

Refrigeration

Along with the standard Project Application, this type of permit requires two (2) sets of signed and sealed building plans and two (2) sets of site plans.
 

Foundation

Along with the standard Project Application, foundation permits require two (2) sets of signed and sealed building plans showing footer detail and two (2) sets of site plans.
 

Foundation Stabilization

This type of permit is required when the foundation of a property is compromised. Along with the standard Project Application, a signed and sealed Engineering report will be needed, if permit request is for underpinning. If installing piers, submit two (2) sets of signed and sealed building plans.
 

Generators

Emergency Generators have become a “must have” in this Hurricane prone state. Along with the standard Project Application, this type of permit requires submittal of two (2) sets of signed and sealed electrical plans, two (2) sets of signed and sealed building plans for slab (if installing generator on top of new slab), and two (2) sets of site plans showing location of same. Hoods & Grease Trap

Along with the standard Project Application, Hood and Grease Trap permits require the submittal of two (2) sets of signed and sealed building plans. Two (2) sets of site plans will also be required if the Grease Trap is located outside; to show the location on the site.
 

Manual Operated Shutters

Along with standard Project Application, Manual Operated Shutter permits require the submittal of two sets of signed and sealed building plans or manufacturer specification and product approval.
 

Moved Buildings

Buildings to be moved shall be relocated in accordance with the approved construction documents, and any changes made during construction that are not in compliance with the approved construction documents shall be resubmitted for approval as an amended set of construction documents. Along with the standard Project Application, this type of permit requires the submittal of two sets of signed and sealed building plans and two (2) sets of site plans.
 

Refrigeration

Along with the standard Project Application, this type of permit requires two (2) sets of signed and sealed building plans and two (2) sets of site plans.
 

Rooftop Mechanical Equipment

Rooftop Mechanical Equipment permits require plans examination and inspections. Customers are to include two (2) sets of plans showing structural connections and rooftop location and the Project Application. If mechanical unit is 15 tons or greater, plans need to be signed and sealed by an architect or engineer. Otherwise, plans can be signed by mechanical contractor.
 

Seawall & Docks

Seawall and Dock permits will be reviewed to ensure that seawalls and/or docks are properly constructed, and designed in compliance with the City of Tampa Flood Damage Control requirements for a velocity zone. Along with the standard Project Application, a signed and sealed survey showing seawall location; wall section showing structural details, will also be required. An engineer or architect’s certification must be provided indicating compliance with the City of Tampa code. Before submittal, approval from the Tampa Port Authority or Hillsborough County EPC is required prior to submital.
 

Shelter

This type of permit requires the submittal of two sets of signed and sealed building plans and two sets of site plans, including a sealed topographic survey and the standard Project Application.
 

Signage

A sign permit is required for any signs that are painted, erected, demolished, altered, rebuilt, enlarged, extended, relocated, attached to, suspended from, or supported by a building or structure.  Customers are to submit two (2) sets of signed and sealed building plans, two (2) sets of site plans showing the sign location, and a notarized authorization letter from the owner.
 

State Sealed Modular

Customers are to include two (2) sets of signed and sealed building plans, two (2) sets of site plans, and the Project Application . Plans are to be approved by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation before submittal. The proposed modular unit shall be installed and inspected in accordance with the manufacturer’s instruction.
 

UG/AG Tank Installation

Submit two (2) signed and sealed building plans if the tank is being installed over new slab.  Two (2) sets of site plans showing the tank location on the site are required. The Plan Reviewer will review each application and accompanying documents for compliance with the Environmental Protection Commission (approval required). All site and building plans shall be drawn to scale on minimum size plan sheets of 18 inches by 24 inches. Exceptions may be granted on a case by case basis by the building official or his designee.
 

Window-Door Replacement (Different Size)

Along with the standard Project Application, this type of permit requires the submittal of two sets of signed and sealed building plans, product approval and the Owner’s Permit Affidavit (if owner is applying for permit).
