Utilities Disruptions

Prolonged power disruptions could have an impact on many areas of our lives including transportation, banking, delivery of food and other essentials, emergency services, health care, utilities, communications, government services, building operations and more. Preparing for an extended power outage is similar to general recommendations for any emergency situation. Our normal access to goods and services, even those as basic as water and power can be disrupted due to both natural and man-made causes. Most disruptions of energy services are on the order of minutes and hours, rather than days or weeks; however widespread storms can leave those in rural areas cut off for days at a time. It is generally recommended that you be prepared for a minimum of 72 hours.

Boil Water Notices

If during a hurricane, tropical storm or unforeseen emergency, our water system loses power and water pressure, we will issue a precautionary boil water notice to our customers.

Water pressure keeps pollutants from entering the underground pipes that bring drinking water to your house or business. When the pressure is lost, contaminants can seep into the pipes. This might allow pathogens (disease-causing germs) into the water that can cause illness if you drink it or prepare food or beverages with it.
