Utilities Disruptions
Prolonged power disruptions could have an impact on many areas of our lives including transportation, banking, delivery of food and other essentials, emergency services, health care, utilities, communications, government services, building operations and more. Preparing for an extended power outage is similar to general recommendations for any emergency situation. Our normal access to goods and services, even those as basic as water and power can be disrupted due to both natural and man-made causes. Most disruptions of energy services are on the order of minutes and hours, rather than days or weeks; however widespread storms can leave those in rural areas cut off for days at a time. It is generally recommended that you
be prepared for a minimum of 72 hours.
