Mayor's Alliance for Persons with Disabilities Luncheon Award Winners
Mayor Bob Buckhorn presented four awards for excellence in service for persons
with disabilities during the Mayor's Alliance for Persons with Disabilities
Awards Luncheon held Friday, October 18, 2013. Over 200 people gathered at the DoubleTree Hotel Westshore for the occasion. Congratulations to the following
- Ben Ritter for the Joe Sanchez, Jr. Leadership Award;
- Gulf Coast Enterprises for the Employer of the Year Award;
- The Diversity Initiative for the Excellence in Media Award;
- Connie-Blaney-Henderson of Liberty Manor for the Outstanding Community
Service/ Volunteer of the Year Award.
Eric LeGrand, the former Rutgers football player and honorary Buccaneer was the
keynote speaker for this year's event. He spoke of the path he has traveled from
being a promising Rutgers football player, to his injury, his rehabilitation,
and his efforts to raise money for spinal cord research. He received a standing
ovation at the end of his inspirational speech.
