EMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE SCHEDULES EMPLOYERS SHOWCASE.

An employer showcase will be held Wednesday, May 17, 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Doubletree Hotel on Cypress Street in Tampa. The employment committee has scheduled this showcase to inform prospective employers about the hidden labor force that exists in the Tampa Bay area. Many agencies will be on hand to discuss how they can train clients to meet the needs of employers. For more information regarding this event please contact Cindy Stephens at 980-3866, ext 304.


FUTURE LEADERS INVITED TO DISABILITIES SEMINAR.

The President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities is seeking applicants for the 2000 National Leadership Conference for Youth with Disabilities. The conference is scheduled for June 24 to 28 in Washington, D.C., and will expose future leaders of those with disabilities to federal political structures, career development and networking opportunities. TORCH RUN TO COMMEMORATE 10TH ANNIVERSARY
OF ADA.

Self-Reliance of Tampa and Caring and Sharing of St. Petersburg are planning a community wide celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The celebration will be a torch run relay, Saturday Evening, July 27, over the Gandy Bridge Friendship Trail. The relay will demonstrate the unity of the Tampa Bay Area in support of the ADA. ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIRS AVAILABLE.

Miracle On Wheels has electric wheelchairs available for qualified senior citizens ages 65 and older and persons who are disabled of any age. Those who apply for the wheelchairs have to meet certain qualifications. The wheelchairs are available for those who cannot walk or use a manual wheelchair in their home or independent living quarters. For more information about this program call (800) 749-8778.


FREE WORKSHOP ON TRAUMATIC
BRAIN INJURY.

The Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Brain Injury Association of Florida (BIAF) will hold a free four-hour workshop dealing with traumatic brain injury. The workshop will be held at the DCF District Office Building in Largo on May 16. For more information call Diana Lincoln (DCF at 850-488-4877, ext. 147.


YMCA OFFERS PROGRAM FOR PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED.

The Bob Sierra Family YMCA continues to offer a year round program for the physically challenged. This program is open to all age groups. For more information on this program call the Y at 962-3220.


FREE EYE EXAM
AND PRESCRIPTION EYEGLASSES.

The City of Tampa is accepting applications for its vision program, which offers free eye exams and a pair of prescription glasses to qualified residents. Applications are available at the Office of Human Rights/Community Services, 102 E. Seventh Avenue between 8am and 5pm Mondays and Thursdays only. For more information call 274-5835.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FLORIDA YOUTH LEADERSHIP FORUM.

The Able Trust (Florida Governor's Alliance for the Employment of Disabled Citizens) is seeking people with disabilities with an interest in youth to serve as volunteers for the Florida Youth Leadership Forum. The YLF, which will take place July 20-23 in Tallahassee, is a leadership conference of high school juniors and seniors with disabilities.
