ACCESSIBILITY COMMITTEE TO MEET
AT ICE PALACE
A combined meeting of the Mayor's
Alliance and the County Alliance will take place Wednesday, June 21 at the Ice Palace.
Presentations will be made by Busch Gardens, the USS Forrestal Sea, Air, Space Museum and
the 10th ADA Anniversary Celebration Committee. Parking will be available in the VIP
parking lot east of the Ice Palace. The meeting will be on the 5th floor of the building

EMPLOYERS SHOWCASE
VERY SUCCESSFUL
Cindy Stephens, Chairperson of the
Employment Committee has reported that the recently held Employer Showcase was very
successful. Stephens said, "Many employers present were happy to learn of the hidden
labor force that exists in the Tampa Bay area. She also said, "We look forward to
having more of these meetings to expose this labor force to the business community."

FUTURE LEADERS INVITED TO
DISABILITIES SEMINAR.
The President's Committee on
Employment of People with Disabilities is seeking applicants for the 2000 National
Leadership Conference for Youth with Disabilities. The conference is scheduled for June 24
to 28 in Washington, D.C., and will expose future leaders of those with disabilities to
federal political structures, career development and networking opportunities. Prospective
participants must be disabled and be ages 28 to 34. For an application call (202)

TORCH RUN TO COMMEMORATE 10TH
ANNIVERSARY OF ADA
Self-Reliance of Tampa and Caring
and Sharing of St. Petersburg are planning a community wide celebration of the 10th
anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The celebration will be a torch
run relay, Saturday Evening, July 27, over the Gandy Bridge Friendship Trail. The relay
will show the unity of the Tampa Bay Area in support of the ADA. Anyone wishing to join

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR
THE VISUAL IMPAIRED
Florida Alliance for Assistive
Services and Technology (FAAST) will hold a conference titled "Explore the Potential
of Employees with Visual Impairments" Wednesday, June 14th, 2:30pm at Tampa General
Hospital, Room F233. The conference will highlight case studies of persons with visual
disabilities using Assistive Technology (AT) to obtain and retain employment. Among the
items covered will be: Exploring the potentials
of AT in the work place. Identifying
misconceptions about AT devices for persons with visual disabilities and ensuring the
right match between AT and the worker. The conference is open to individuals with
disabilities and their families, and rehabilitation counselors. For more information call

BUCS' JOHN LYNCH HONORS
ATHLETES WITH DISABILITIES.
John and Lynda Lynch recently
honored Adrian Wilkes, Logan Pennypacker, Liz Fink and Jessica Burkman as Athletes with
Disabilities Stars of the Year. Receiving Honorable Mention were Brian King, Dina Lista,
Latissa Crosby and Scott Graph. All are area high school students who excel in sports. The
recognition was given at the "Salute The Stars 2000" luncheon presented by the
Tampa Bay Sports Commission, John and Linda Lynch Family Foundation and The Greater Tampa
Chamber of Commerce.

The Able Trust (Florida Governor's
Alliance for the Employment of Disabled Citizens) is seeking people with disabilities with
an interest in youth to serve as volunteers for the Florida Youth Leadership Forum. The
YLF, which will take place July 20-23 in Tallahassee, is a leadership conference of high
