ON A ROLL RADIO HOST TO SPEAK AT LUNCH.
Greg Smith, host and creator of the nationally
syndicated "ON-A-ROLL RADIO" talk show and home page columnist for
AccessLife.com will be the keynote speaker at the Alliance's Annual Awards Luncheon. The
Luncheon will be held Tuesday, October 24 in the Four Points Hotel corner of Hillsborough
Avenue and Orient Road. His radio show is aired across the nation Sunday Evenings from 9
to 11pm and is sponsored by General Motors, Microsoft, Invacare and AccessLife.com. It can
also be heard on the Internet. The Wall Street Journal has described his program as
"thought provoking and irreverent." Smith who is a wheelchair rider with
muscular dystrophy was recently named one of 20 disability rights advocates at the
"20 Years, 20 leaders: Sweeping Changes" conference in Chicago. He was honored
for his work in increasing awareness of disability issues through broadcasting. Smith
began his career in broadcast by doing play by play football games while in high school.
He attended the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State College, where he
served as the sports director of the campus radio station. He holds a bachelor's degree in
broadcasting. Smith has done play by play broadcasting of the Sun Devils and the Phoenix
Suns, and has interviewed many sports figures such as Michael Jordan and Kareen-Abdul
Jabbar. He also hosted a call in radio show called "Cardinal Talk" which aired
after every Cardinal game. Smith is a member of several national committees concerning
people with disabilities and is a recognized speaker on self-definition, motivation and
disability issues. He has three non disabled children and recently moved to the Tampa
area. In addition to Smith's speech Mayor Greco will present this year's annual awards at

SHRINERS HOSPITAL
TO HOLD
INFORMATION DAY.
The Shriners Hospital For Children will hold an
information day called Day of Exploration Saturday October 21st, 10am to 3 pm. The day is
designed to provide important information and guidance need for youth with disabilities,
14 and older. The information available will provide a learning experience about resources
and services available to them as they transition into adulthood. Among the subjects
discussed will be information on funding, Independent living work, day programs,
wheelchairs, group homes, sports, financial planning and education. There will also be a
drawing for three adult-sized tricycles. The hospital is located on the USF Campus at
12502 North Pine Drive, in Tampa. For more information on this program please call Larry

Mayor's Annual Awards. The Employer of the Year Award, Media Award and Outstanding
Community Service Award will be presented by Mayor Greco at the annual luncheon Tuesday,
October 24. Nominations for these awards should be returned no later then Friday, October
6. the forms can be faxed to 259-2517.
JOB FAIR THIS MONTH.
The Mayor's and County's Alliances Annual Job
Fair will be held Wednesday, October 18 at the Florida Job Services Office, 9393 North
Florida Avenue (corner of Florida Avenue and Busch Boulevard.) As in the past, there will
be many employers there looking to hire employees, those seeking employment are urged to
bring a resume with them or be prepared to fill out employment application forms. For more

MOBILE VETERINARY
CLINIC MAKES HOUSE CALLS.
Dr. Maria Miller, DVM has informed the Alliance
that she is now available to make house calls to take care of pets of persons with
disabilities. Dr. Miller has her DVM from the University of Georgia and has been
practicing for five years in various Veterinarian Clinics around the country. If your pet
has a problem and you cannot get to a Veterinarian Clinic because you are disabled call
