The Department of Arts and Cultural Affairs provides oversight to the Tampa Museum of Art and the Public Art Program.

The Department is also a liaison department to all arts and cultural facilities and activities in the City of Tampa. The Director represents the Mayor or City on the following boards and committees:

• The Florida Aquarium,
• The Florida Orchestra,
• Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Public Art Committee,
• Hillsborough County Arts Council,
• Kid City – the Children’s Museum,
• Henry B. Plant Museum,
• Mayor’s Beautification Program,
• The Museum of Science and Industry,
• Tampa Bay History Center,
• Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center,
• Tampa/Hillsborough County Expressway Authority Aesthetics Committee,
• Tampa Public Art,
• Tampa Bay Business Committee for the Arts,
• Gasparilla Arts Festival Board, and
• The Tampa Theater.

The Department also directs or assists a number of special projects such as

• The Florida 2012 Olympic Bid – Cultural Theme,
• Holiday Card Showcase in Lykes Gaslight Park,
• Shakespeare in the Park,
• 2001 Super Bowl Task Force, and
• The Hillsborough County Millennium Committee.

The department’s involvement in these boards and activities includes strategic planning, budget oversight, facility needs, fundraising, advocacy, grant proposals, special events, operations, board development, marketing and program development so that opportunities for collaboration are identified and maximized. Project management for the Cultural Arts District in Downtown Tampa, (project began in FY 00) is another responsibility of the department.
