To report an un-permitted tree removal - Please call TREE HOTLINE: 258-TREETree Removal and Site Clearing PermitsAll trees 5” and over in trunk diameters are protected in the City of Tampa, which means permits for removal must be obtained prior to removal. All cypress and mangrove trees, regardless of size, require a permit for removal. This applies to private property and public right of way.
Applications are not permits, an inspector will verify your request meets Chapter 13 requirements for removal. Permit fees are $99.00 for each site.

City of Tampa Construction Services Center Trees that Do Not Require a Permit to RemoveThe following trees do not require permits for removal: Eucalyptus tree; Ear tree; Punk tree; Chinaberry tree; Cherry laurel tree; Brazilian pepper tree; Monkey puzzle tree; Silk oak tree; Mimosa tree; Queen palm; Wild cherry tree; citrus spp.; Chinese tallow tree; Lead tree; Rosewood tree; Earleaf acacia tree; Surinam cherry; Carrotwood tree; Golden rain tree; Schefflera tree. Grand TreesTrees over 34” in trunk diameter may qualify for grand tree designation. Grand trees have elevated protection requirements and may only be removed under certain circumstances. In addition, permits are required for pruning grand trees. Permit fees for pruning grand trees are $99.00 for each site. Permit fees for hazardous grand tree removal Are $128.00 for each site; non-hazardous grand tree removal request, $514.00. Trimming or Removal of Trees in Right of WaysTrees that are located on private property, but overhang public property or streets, will only be pruned by the City of Tampa if they are interfering with access or emergency vehicle height clearance. Pruning will also occur if there has been a branch failure that is blocking access to a public street, sidewalk or driveway apron off the public street. Community Tree ProgramThe program fosters the replenishment of Tampa’s valuable and gracious tree canopy. Trees are a community resource that provides tangible benefits, in terms of visual and aesthetic attributes, environmental assets, health benefits, and economic value. The City of Tampa recognizes the benefits of its trees and is committed to the conservation and enhancement of its environment. The Community Tree Program is free and provides individuals and neighborhood associations with trees for planting on City land, greenways, and street right of ways.
