Bomb Squad

| The
Bomb Squad responds to
situations involving homemade bombs, discarded or improperly stored
commercial explosives, military ordinances, chemical, biological and
radiological health hazards. The unit uses monthly training with live
explosive materials and technical tools to maintain the necessary
expertise to handle these hazards. The 12 officers assigned to this
specialty unit must
attend regular training and certification courses provided by the FBI and
the I.A.B.T.I.
(International Association of Bomb Technicians & Investigators),
a professional organization comprised of bomb technicians. On
average, the Bomb Squad investigates over 100 suspicious packages and
conducts over 50 venue sweeps. The Bomb Squad is a
regional team serving Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Pasco, and
Hernando Counties. The Squad trains regularly with agents
from the FBI, ATF, State Fire Marshals Office, Hillsborough
County Sheriff's Office and Tarpon Springs that are all members
of the regional team. |
