Major Keith O'Connor

Major Keith O’Connor has played a critical role in the department’s crime reduction success as a supervisor in patrol and the former street level drug unit, QUAD. He most recently served as a patrol Captain where he was instrumental in creating a new enforcement program to prevent violent crime in the city’s entertainment districts. The police veteran also spearheaded the creation of the department’s first homeless liaison position that has been a resounding success. The new liaison officer has made great strides connecting homeless people with the social services needed to get them off the streets.

During the Republican National Convention, O’Connor served as a Commander of the Crowd Management Team that worked to diffuse potential conflicts with demonstrators and helped showcase the agency in a positive light nationally.

The TPD veteran helped the department implement the Rapid Offender Control Program in 2010. As a lieutenant, this aggressive crime fighter was also the driving force some of the Department’s successful holiday crime reducing operations. He also served as a Field Training Officer for six years.

Major O’Connor earned his BA from the University of South Florida and is married to the newly appointed Captain, Mary O’Connor. They have two children, Ryan and Natalie.
