Assistant Chief Marc Hamlin is serving as the Assistant Chief over
Investigations and Support. This is a natural step for Hamlin since he was the
Major over the Special Support Division since 2008. He is responsible for all
major events in the city, all hurricane preparation and all the specialty units
and squads. He ensures all specialized resources support the department’s
mission to reduce crime.
During his 19-year career Hamlin has established an impressive track record of
reducing crime – specifically in Ybor City, Sulphur Springs and East Tampa. He
has served in all three patrol districts. He also worked seven-years as a
detective and sergeant in undercover units of the Narcotics Bureau and the
Street Anti-Crime Squad. Marc also served as a trustee on the City of Tampa Fire
and Police Pension Fund for nine years and was Chairman of the Board for four
years.
After Super Bowl XLIII, Hamlin continued as Stadium Commander at all Buccaneer
games. He utilizes his two years of experience in planning the Super Bowl to
keep the weekly games running smoothly.
Hamlin is a native of Queens, NY. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Criminal Justice from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY and a Master’s Degree
in Public Administration from Troy State University. Marc is also a graduate of
the University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute, where he was a Dean
Scholar Award winner and President of the 106th Administrative Officers' Course.
