Assistant Chief Marc Hamlin

Assistant Chief of Police - Investigations & Support

Asst Chief Marc HamlinAssistant Chief Marc Hamlin has served as the Commander of the Special Support Division since June of 2008. He oversees all major events in the city, directs all hurricane preparation, and runs all the specialty squads including the Tactical Response Team (TRT), Hostage Negotiation, Bomb and Dive Teams, Aviation, Marine Patrol, Traffic, DUI, Canine and Mounted Patrol. He ensures these specialized resources support the department’s mission to reduce crime and improve the quality of life for our citizens.

Assistant Chief Hamlin  oversees the Investigative and Special Support Divisions of the Tampa Police Department.  His command includes a wide spectrum of services such as criminal investigations, narcotics, gangs, traffic division, personnel and training, records, evidence and property, forensics, special events, emergency management and specialty teams such as the Tactical Response Team, Air Service, Marine & Mounted Patrols. Chief Hamlin manages the department’s annual $139 million dollar budget. 


Major George McNamara

Commander - Criminal Investigations Division

Major George McNamara Major George McNamara joined the department in January 1981. He has served in several areas of the department including the Patrol Divisions, Special Operations Bureau and the Criminal Investigations Divisions where he spent nearly twelve years working with the Homicide Squad before being promoted to the rank of Major in June of 2003. Major McNamara holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo College and is an honor's graduate of the Southern Police Institute Administrative Officers Course.

Major McNamara oversees the departments Major Crimes Bureau , Narcotics Bureau , Communications Bureau and Gang Suppression Unit.


Commander - Special Support Division

Major Teague

Major Sophia Teague joined the department in February 1984. She served the department in Patrol, Field Training, QUAD (Quick Uniform Attack on Drugs) Criminal Investigations, the Administrative Division before being promoted to Major in November of 2005 and becoming the District Two Commander. Major Teague became the District One Commander in June 2008.  She is a graduate of Saint Leo University with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Master’s in Business Administration. She also attended the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Senior Leadership program.

The Special Support Division is consist of the Special Operations Bureau (all special events in the city, Emergency Management, Homeland Security preparedness, Aviation Unit, Special Teams, Traffic Squad, K9 Squad, Mounted Unit, Marine Unit, Police Reserves, and DUI Squad) and the Support Services Bureau (Personnel, Training, Evidence Control, Supply, Records, Extra Duty Office, Honor Guard, Chaplin, Police Explorers & Police Athletic League).
