When should I call 911?

911 should only be called for life or death emergencies, medical emergencies or crimes in progress. For other matters that require Police responses, call (813) 231-6130.

Why do I have to answer so many questions when I call 911?

911 call-takers have been professionally trained to gather as much detailed information as possible. This does not delay police response. Usually the call-taker has already sent a call for service and continuously updates that event.  The more details that are included in the call ensure citizen and police officer safety.

Why am I asked for my address? Doesn't that show up when I call 911?

Call-takers are trained to verify the address of the caller. Cellular calls DO NOT provide an accurate locations, so the call-taker will confirm the address with the caller.
