The Evidence Control Section oversees all inventory procedures for property in the custody of the Tampa Police Department. Specifically, this unit performs various tasks related to in custody property, impounded vehicles and auctions.

The Unit has two operational locations; the main police headquarters building and the Police Impound Lot. The main headquarters building is where smaller items retained for evidence or safe keeping is stored. Additionally, all narcotics, firearms and currency are stored there in a secure vault. All of the administrative functions are conducted at the main building as well.

The Police Impound Lot is used primarily to store vehicles, boats and larger pieces of evidence or seized property. Vehicles impounded by the department for reasons other than evidentiary value or seizure are not stored or processed by the Police Impound Lot.
