On a typical training day, The Motor Units will practice various exercises to sharpen their skills. Each Motor Officer is certified. The temperatures can reach over 100 degrees on the training pad.

The Tampa Police Motor Officers and Motorcycle Instructors are nationally certified using either Institute of Police Technology And Management (IPTM) or Northwestern University Center for Public Safety (NUCPS) standards. Every six months, the Motorcycle Officers re-qualify to keep their skills sharp.
