Reserve Officer George Seiler Reserve Officer George Seiler has been a member of the Tampa Police Department’s Reserve Force since November of 1986. As a 22-year full-time civilian employee with the Tampa Police Department, having worked in the Communications Section and currently working in the Technology Unit, Reserve Officer Seiler was quickly recognized for his computer expertise and was instrumental in developing a critically needed administrative database. The database has exceeded all expectations and currently remains in use continuing to save countless hours in managing various record keeping tasks of the Reserve Force.

Reserve Force rules require all reserve officers to volunteer 144 hours of their time annually. Since joining the Reserve Force, Reserve Officer Seiler has continued to go above and beyond the minimum requirements. Last year, Reserve Officer’s Seiler’s volunteer hours were 38% above the required 144 hours, having volunteered for a total of 444 hours. These hours represent a savings in cost of $16,900.00 in salary if a fulltime officer had to fulfill those assignments.

Reserve Officer Seiler not only performs at an exceptional level daily, but has also demonstrated strong commitment and leadership as a Reserve Force Platoon Leader, commanding five squads of 10 members each. Moreover, in addition to the hours documented as “officially donated,” Reserve Officer Seiler is always the first to volunteer for extra assignments, which he often completes without documenting the additional hours. He has assisted with the training of new reserve officers and continues to act as a mentor for them throughout their reserve force careers.
