The City of Tampa partnered with the GTE Federal Credit Union and approved a plan to utilize their corporate building for managers as an alternative location for our Continuity of Operations Plan, or COOP. In addition, GTE FCU is now the new location for the City of Tampa Emergency Operations Center. The partnership formed during the COOP planning process progressed to unprecedented business/agency collaboration with the GTE FCU. The GTE FCU hosted the Multi-Agency Operations Center (MACC), the hub for the operations of Super Bowl XLIII. The City of Tampa, police, fire, and emergency management, and the FBI worked with GTE FCU staff for approximately one year to bring the vision of the MACC to fruition. GTE FCU assisted with the physical build out, along with the technological and logistics support required for operating the MACC. GTE FCU was more than willing to aid with security needs, parking, and other amenities. The MACC housed the Tampa Police Department Emergency Operations / Planning Center, the Joint Information Center, the Unified Command Center, the Intelligence Operations Center, and Federal Joint Operations Center. The MACC operated for ten days, and at times there were several hundred City, County, State, and Federal employees working together, at the GTE Federal Credit Union’s building, 24hours a day in order to safely and effectively operate and support Super Bowl XLIII. This MACC will be known as the model for many future grand scale events across the nation. All of this could not have been possible without the partnership and support provided by GTE Federal Credit Union and their staff.
